The Sexy Rebel Rockers of Cumgirl8

By Drezden

We first heard of Cumgirl8 as listed in the Substance Music Festival of 2022 we were kindly guest listed for, with headlining bands Jesus and Mary Chain, The Chameleons, and many more.  The band was playing the festival. After the initial shock of their dirty name, we next checked out their music, and to our surprise, were very impressed.

Embarrassed however, to even say their name to a feminist female friend, she reminded me that punk rock is meant to be shocking. “That’s the point, right?” She said, saying, “Look at all those other bands you love…The Sex Pistols, The Slits, The Dead Kennedy’s, and the Circle Jerks!” I laughed. “I guess your right,” I said, “It’s just so dirty though!”  “It is she said,” but look at “Pussy Riot” you love. And all the mainstream news media even said their name. ”  “That’s true,” I replied.

I remembered when an adult saw me listening to the Circle Jerks as a child, they informed me that the name meant a bunch of guys standing around in a circle masturbating in front of each other. “Eww!” I said. “I don’t even think they’re gay.”

When I was jamming another time, I was told that the band Stiff Little Fingers were a dirty name. Why I asked? “What do you think a little finger gets stiff for?” I was asked. Hmmm.

I remembered when the Sex Pistols were one of my favorite bands, and adults were shocked when I said that name. What’s wrong with it I asked? They explained that it meant sex was being fired like a gun. “That’s creative,” I said. “If all those fat ugly politicians got laid more, there wouldn’t be any war!” I argued. The adults agreed.

I remember one time telling some adults I was heading to Chicago to see a band. Who they asked? The Butthole Surfers.  They busted up laughing and asked me if they surfed on buttholes.  “Not that I’m aware of,” I said, “but they rock!” Still to this day, one of the best concerts of my life.

I thought of We’ve Got a Fuzzbox…and We’re Gonna Use It, another great female band. I thought of Come with Thalia from Live Skull. I thought of Nashville Pussy who wanted to party with me once. I thought of Lydia Lunch and Lisa Suckdog. I thought of Women of Sodom, and of course,  The Genitorturers and that time Gen invited me on her bus.

Then I thought of Cream and Frank Zappa, and countless other bands that at the time, were pushing the boundaries of morality and decency with sex or sexual language. I thought about The Doors and all Jim Morrison did.

And then I looked at cumgirl8 in a new light. Simply a part of a long legacy of sexual rebellion and shock and awe that is the spirit of Rock N’ Roll, cumgirl8 are doing probably exactly what I would do if I were a young hot chick starting a band. I’d use my sex appeal as a weapon to slay. After all, if it doesn’t make most people squirm, then what’s the point?

About the name…”You can’t even describe the taste. And the name. And the vibe…it’s a Utopia.” –Cumgirl8

And so subnormal magazine packed up our camera, and headed out to the Los Angeles Theatre to spend some time with the girls of cumgirl8. We had no idea what to expect.

According to their official one sentence biography we received (that we updated to include Avishag who has now joined the band);

cumgirl8 transports their listeners to a fluorescent alternate universe. Lida Fox, Veronika Vilim, Chase Noelle, and Avishag Cohen are four sex-positive superheroes that explore the realms of climax to reach enlightenment, using cyberculture as their portal to pleasure.

Cumgirl8 are great on so many levels. Number one, they obviously look rad and are hot as hell. OK so what. So are many Kpop bands but  most of em’ suck. Number two, Cumgirl8 rocks. They are just the right mix of raw talent and punk spirit of “just pick up a guitar and jam” that they are exciting to watch. And number three, they are great performers. There are many bands I love on stereo, but on stage, they are so concerned with hitting every vocal note perfectly that they barely even move. They aren’t great performers.

Cumgirl8 are great performers and entertainers. You never know quite what they are going to do next, and watching them, you feel like anything could happen. And it does.  The night I saw them here, Red Hot Chili Peppers Anthony Kiedis was sitting on the edge of the stage, enjoying their show right next to me. “I think they’re very talented,” Anthony told me. And that they are.

And so we bring you here below an exclusive interview with the girls of Cumgirl8. So plug in your headphones, pump up the volume, and ride the sweet vibe of Cumgirl8. The interview starts as spontaneously as the band itself. We just started talking and Veronika didn’t know we had started the interview.  I figured we had started it but then again we kind of didn’t, and we did, It just flowed. So like a movie that doesn’t show the title for 5 minutes after you’ve watched the movie, it’s like that. It’s subnormal bitches. Who needs titles anyway? Whatever. Eat your hearts out…

Note: Many of the bands playing Substance had no dressing rooms, so there was a lot of background noise. So use headphones and make sure both earpieces are in in.
